My name is Dan Dustin and my business is hand hewing. I am expert at re-hewing sawn material to match work in old buildings and for new construction. I am also expert at hewing beams out from a log with axe and broad axe.

I work entirely by hand.

I can hew just about anything, including planks only an inch thick, which means that you can have hand hewn mouldings, window and door frames, and box beams.

I can hew shaped pieces, such as gunstock posts and the like.

I can hew just the sides that will be seen so that you or your contractor can work with my beams easily and at less cost.

I do a good deal of work for timber framers -- I regularly hew frames after the joints are in.

I can hew contemporary weather-resistant materials
such as pressure treated wood and even this new plastic stuff so you can have hand hewn landscape timber and decking.

I am reliable and professional in my work, which has been profiled in Fine Woodworking and Renovation Style magazines, and shown at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York. I have won the Brookstone Wood Award.

I've done a good deal of work over the last 30 years, from New Jersey to Maine, mostly in private homes. My work can be seen in the following public buildings:

Library (Mason, NH, Pine 6x6s), Bedford Village Inn (Bedford, NH, Oak 8x8s), Old Stone Blacksmith Shop (Dunbarton, NH, Hewn from trees)

A 50 minute videocassette is available detailing and demonstrating the hand hewing process. Send $50 and request a copy of "From Tree To Beam."
